Yesterday, walking in a park, our team of great reporters met CBC, using his Gibbon Classic between two trees, with a big sun, beers not very far... with several friends. Naturally the idea of interviewing him came to our mind. Here is our report, enjoy!
Which slackline do you use ? Why this one ?
Well, I have always been using the Gibbon Classic Slackline. First I started with that one because it was one of the cheapest on the market, and one showing the greatest aspects. You can easily run the tense which is really nice. But the main reason is simply that I tried this one, with a friend, and I got quickly convinced. [...] The thing is that I could barely stand up on the line and I had the need to try more, more and more until I succeeded and beat that friend (laugh). You know, that competitive spirit that you can find in sport, well, it also exists in slacklining.
Where did you get the idea to start slacklining ?
Which type of slacklining do you practice ?
Like everybody I got really impressed to see those "monkeys" jumping on that 2" slackline... so I have quickly wanted to do so. But it's not that easy, and I started walking, then a few weeks later to jump, and a few months after the first tricks came out of me. That was a pleasure, because before, it's a lot of frustration, deception and come one day when you start to enjoy. And hell yeaah... That's good.
Was it difficult to start ? For example did you have troubles getting the material ?
Hmm I would say yes and no. Yes because when you start it's like everything, it's totally new, you are not used to. But after a few tries you become more and more aware of your body, your balance. Plus, I had some basics of "balance" with my former sports such as skateboard or even surf. That was really a huge advantage.
How do you practice, in group or alone ?
To improve, the best is alone, except if you are with some motivated guys. Otherwise use your slackline with friends, it guarantees funny moments. Really, with a nice weather, like we are here, just enjoying the nature and our free time. It's perfect, at least better than to stay home playing videogames. Well, that's according to me.
One advice to give to people who would like to start slacklining ?
As your wrote it well in the article you just showed me (Review: the Gibbon Classic Slackline), the key word is perserverance. It will lead you to the top, but it's like everything, it's by trying and failing that we learn. So, try, fail, and learn to make the best out of you.
You know what you have to do with the Gibbon Classic, good luck guys!
