Rio, Rio, Rio |
How great it looks to slackline in Brazil?! Beaches, fantastic weather, parties... There are many reasons to slackline in Brazil, it makes meet people and more than everything it makes you learn. Because you are sure to meet someone who has an in-depth knowledge of the world and techniques of the slacklines. Brasil is probably one of the country where Slacklining is the most developped. Everybody knows it. Ask Giovanna Petruci, a slacker from Rio and one of the best at making tricks on a jumpline. Anyway, today we are not interested in simple spots. We are interested in Highline spots. And thanks to Caio Salomao (his blog here) we discover 5 highlines spots in the region of Rio de Janeiro! Samba!
1) Highline of Gruta do Salitre
Next to Diamantina (most known for its carnival, one of the best of the Brazil. There, you can set up a line of 10 meters at 20 high. Caio Afeto advices to climb "both sides and put anchor on pieces of rock".

2) Highline of Pontilhao
This one is close to Domingo Martins. 15 meters length for 15 meters high. Anchor one side on the rock and the other side on the bridge. Caio show you it all in his YouTube video here.
3) Highline of Mestre Alvaro
City of Serra, 25 meters length for 30 meters high.
4) Highline of Krenak
A bit longer again since this highline is of 30 meters length. On Caio's blog we learn that this place is full of towers of quartzite, near Resplendor. It makes the place perfect to do climbing and highlining. The line already opened by Caio Amador and Lucas Mello was 25 meters high between two towers and anchored the webbing on pieces of rock.
5) Highline at Cachoeira de Matilde
Last one and longest one. 40 meters length and 70 meters high. No need to say that you have to be very careful with your set up. Like for the previous one. If you have no experience, don't try to make it. The plus of this spot is its environment, above a waterfall, the dream of all highliner. It is located at the Village of Matilde. A new system was even created to set up that line, a stronger and more efficient system. It consists in anchoring the webbing on the pulleys using the eight to abseil.
Of course this list is non-exhaustive and there are many many other places to practice highline, waterline and we don't even speak of jumpline... Feel free to advice some other spots, all over the world.
